Ancient Warfare Ad

For the first time in MP Filmcraft history, we are submitting a half-page advertisement to Ancient Warfare, a magazine published in the UK and read around the world by history buffs and reenactors who would most likely appreciate the custom historical armor that Matt designs and makes.  Thanks go out to Caspar Nonner for his help in designing the ad.  Here’s a sneak peek of the almost-finished ad:

Steampunk Costumes for Music Video in the Works!

Matt has been commissioned to make two original Steampunk costumes for a music video to be shot in LA January 20th and 21st.  He’ll be flying out to LA on Wednesday, January 19th for the shoot.  We’re excited about the prospect of debuting his work in a potentially wide-reaching video.  He’s been working closely with the producers of the video to match the style of the set and music.  We’ll post more information (and possibly some photos) once the video has been shot and we figure out permissions, etc.  For now, I’ll post some photos of some previous Steampunk costumes he made for a customer in the U.K.

New Line of Bronze Age Greek Mycenaean/Achaean Armor

Matt started researching ancient Greek Mycenaean/Achaean history over the summer, studying both Homeric epics (the Iliad and the Odyssey) and has come up with several new representations of what may have been worn by Greeks in the Bronze Age over 3,000 years ago.  The new line includes a boar tusk helmet and lobster tail-style armor with bronze plating.  Matt has enjoyed working with bronze and coming up with armor that looks like nothing he’s created before that’s also true to the period, as it’s very sturdy and combat-worthy.  He plans to release impressions based on Homer’s descriptions of the Greek heroes, such as Odysseus, Achilles, Hector, and Menelaus.  He has several pieces done already and will be doing product photography in the next several weeks.

Texas Renaissance Festival – Roman Bacchanal 11/6/10

Matt, Darren, and Ismael dressed up in Greek armors and headed out to the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville, TX (outside of Houston) to participate in the Roman parade.

Rick Riordan Event at Book People 10/12/10

Matt was asked by Topher Bradfield at Book People to set up a table and have a few Greek warriors dressed up for a book signing event with Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series.  Matt, Darren, and Clint dressed up and Matt also premiered his Blood of a King trailer.  The event drew many Riordan fans, both teens and adults, and it was a great time.

Blood of a King – Film Shoot at Dougherty Arts Center 9/1/10

Matt held a film shoot at the Dougherty Arts Center on the Odyssey set for the Oracle of Delphi scene.  Topher Bradfield arranged to deliver the Greek column set piece to the theater, and even found a great backup Oracle when the original actress was not able to make it.  An actor from The Odyssey Rock Musical played the Delphi Priest.
